Over the course of my twenty year career, I have served as an assistant public defender, in private criminal defense, as a child welfare attorney, and as a prosecutor. Today, I work in the Conviction Integrity Unit, an independent and autonomous division within the Bexar County District Attorney's Office. Our team corrects injustices because even one wrongful conviction is too many. Each of these roles has provided me a unique perspective of the judicial system—its strengths, flaws, and, most importantly, the profound impact it has on real people and their families.
I grew up in San Antonio, Texas with parents who instilled in me the importance of service to community. As a public defender and private defense attorney, I stood beside adults and children at their most vulnerable, ensuring their rights were protected. As a child welfare attorney, I advocated for the neglected and abused children of Bexar County, making sure their voices were considered when determining their uncertain future. I also represented and fought for parents while they navigated the complexities of a high stakes court system.
Through my broad experience, I have learned that justice is not "one size fits all." Justice must be fair, thoughtful, and informed by a deep understanding of criminal law and the human stories behind every case.
